The History of Melaka
The remarkable history of Melaka spans a period of over 600 years.
To this day, researchers and archaeologists are still uncovering more and more remnants of the different folk who colonised Melaka. Those who left their traces in the people, architecture and culture of this unique land.
The state was ruled at times by the Melaka Sultanate, the Portuguese, the Dutch, the British, the Japanese, and the British again, until Malaya finally became an independent nation in 1957. In 1963, Malaya incorporated Sabah and Sarawak to become Malaysia. This nation of diverse cultures and races began here in Melaka, known as the Heart of History.
